Robert D. Smith

Robert ‘Bob’ D. Smith, 72, of Fort Dodge, died Thursday, October 25, 2007 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center.

A gathering to celebrate the life of Bob will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2007 at the Celebration Center, Friendship Haven.

Robert was born October 1, 1935 the son of Leonard and Ida (Conklin) Smith in Fort Dodge, IA. The family then moved to Dayton. Bob later moved to Lanyon, IA and then back to Fort Dodge operating a TV and Radio Repair business in both communities. Bob has been a resident at Friendship Haven since 1980 where his technical knowledge of computers and electronics helped others with email and blinking green lights. Bob had been a Ham Radio operator since his teenage years.

Those thankful for having shared in Bob’s life include his brother in law; Ken Haugen of Fort Dodge, niece; Carol (John) Gardner of Stevens Point, WI, nephews; Duane Haugen of Omaha, NE and Mark (Vicki) Haugen of Hawley, MN. He is also survived by a very special friend, Mary Wespler of Friendship Haven.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister; Genese Haugen.

The family request memorials be directed to Friendship Haven.

In accordance with Bob’s wish, he was cremated. An inurnment will follow at a later date.
