Bill J. Porter

Bill Jim Porter, 94, of Manson, IA, died Sunday, July 13, 2025, at his home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at North Lawn Cemetery, 2201 N. 15th Street – Fort Dodge, with Pastor Jim McColley of St. Olaf Lutheran Church officiating. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge. 

Bill was born July 31, 1930, in Mankato, MN, the son of John R. and Gertrude F. (Frahm) Porter. He attended Fort Dodge schools. Bill married Donna Wright and the couple later divorced. Bill was a trucker and worked for CCC and PIE Trucking until his retirement in 1985. Following his retirement, he worked at Shiela B’s Popcorn in Manson for 17 years. Bill enjoyed many things over the years: water skiing, boating, painting cars, camping, fishing, casino trips, welding for friends, puttering in the garage and taking care of his dog that he loved so much. He was a collector of cars and tractors. Bill was also a member of the Teamster Union.

Bill is survived by his daughter: Pam Sanford of Twin Lakes. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 7 siblings: Jack Porter, Jerry Porter, Raymond Porter, Shirley Sweeney, Helen Porter, Chuck Porter and Melvin Porter; and former wife: Donna Porter.
