Burton W. Stensrud, 89 of Marshalltown, formerly of Woolstock and Fort Dodge died Monday. Funeral Services will be Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 1:30 at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home in Fort Dodge with Rev. Gary Snook officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:30 until time of services. Burial will be in the Gowrie Township Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Fort Dodge American Legion Post 1856.

Burton “Burt” Willilam Stensrud was born August 2, 1923 in Livermore, Iowa to Andrew and Irene (Whipple) Stensrud. After school he served in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Bernice Schutt on March 3, 1959 in Elk Point, South Dakota. The family settled in Fort Dodge until moving to a farm near Woolstock in 1960. The family moved into Woolstock in 1977.

Burt sold advertising for Cappers Weekly for many years, retiring in 1998. For the past eight years he has been a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown where he died on May 13, 2013 at the age of 89 years. He was a life member of the Fort Dodge V.F.W. Post 1856 and a life member of the Woolstock American Legion Post 557. He was a former member of Cooties and loved to watch television.

He is survived by his wife Bernice of Woolstock, two sons; Bart (Rebecca) Stensrud of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Dave (Lisa) Stensrud of Preston, Minnesota, three step-sons; Dennis Tracy, Gary (Alice) Tracy, and Roger Tracy. He is also survived by 8 step-grandchildren, 10 step-great grandchildren and 2 step great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-daughter Sharon Linn, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
