Carolyn Jean Woodyard

Carolyn Jean Woodyard, 82, of Algona, IA, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the Algona Manor. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the American Legion, 601 Broad Street in Whittemore, IA 50598. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge. 

Carolyn was born July 26, 1943, in Algona, the daughter of Marilyn (Richmond) and William Stewart. She graduated from Algona High School in 1961. Over the years, she was united in marriage to James Richardson and Darrell Woodyard. Carolyn was a cook, dietician & baker and worked at Hoods Grocery (Bakery Department) and the Algona Manor (Kitchen). Carolyn loved playing games with her grandchildren – especially Sorry, Uno and other card games. She also loved donuts, painting her fingernails, cats, plants and beautiful landscaping. She enjoyed going for rides with her friend “Cookie”.

Carolyn is survived by 3 children: Mina Lowman and husband David of Algona, Blaine Richardson and wife Renee of Whittemore, and Chris Richardson and wife Nikki of Algona; 4 grandchildren: Payton Hamburger and husband Jake, Ashlyn Altman and husband Mason, Jayden Richardson and Dravin Richardson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and 2 siblings: Phil Simpson and Norm Stewart.
