Curtis B. Olson

Curtis B. Olson, 56, of Fort Dodge, died Tuesday, October 23, at his residence.  Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, October 29th at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at the North Lawn Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4-8 Sunday at the funeral home.

Curtis B. Olson was born June 15 1956, in Fort Dodge to the parents of Elmer B. Olson and Frances M. Gosse Olson.  Curtis attended Riverside Elementary School, South Jr. High and Fort Dodge Sr. High before joining the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17.  He obtained the rank of Corporal and received his honorable discharge in 1976.  He returned to Fort Dodge and worked at Iowa Beef Packers until it closed and then was employed with Georgia Pacific for over 29 years until the time of his death.

Curt knew no strangers and was the inventor of random acts of kindness.  That was his life and legacy.  Nothing made Curt happier than to give of himself to help his community, his neighbors, and friends.  He was truly an inspiration to all who knew him.

Curt enjoyed giving of his time and energy to numerous civic and charitable causes.  He spent 8 years on the Fort Dodge city council and was looking forward to running for re-election in 2013.  He was an eternal optimist about the future of Fort Dodge.  Many spent time with Curt as he was a tireless volunteer for the Humane Society of North Central Iowa, Fort Dodge Dragoons, the Quartermaster Corps and Frontier days and Shelabration events...  Curt was a proud member of the Mid-Iowa Detachment of the Marine Corps League and was serving as the group's vice-commandant at the time of his death and previously served as commandant.   Curt was honored to be a guardian on all 5 Brushy Creek Honor flight trips to Washington D.C. in 2010 and 2011.

He was survived by his son and daughter- in-law Curtis A. and Bridgett Olson of Fort Dodge, his sister Maureen Pint, brothers Dennis Olson, Tom Olson, Dale Olson, Norman Olson, Julie Packard-Knutson, best friend and fiancé of Fort Dodge and her sons Packard and James Knutson of Ankeny.  He was also survived by a very special lifelong friend, Esther Tuvell of Fort Dodge.  Curt thought of her as a mother.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and one brother Richard.
