David R. Moody, 89, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Saturday, September 27, 2025, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South, with Rev. John Elkin officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge.
David was born April 30, 1936, in Monroe, MI, the son of Royal I. and Ellen W. (Webb) Moody. In 1954, he graduated from High School in Monroe, MI and continued his education at Michigan Technology in Houghton, MI, where he earned his BS degree. On February 14, 1963, he was united in marriage to Peggy M. McCray in Virginia. The couple moved to Iowa in 1993. Over the years, he mined diamonds in West Africa, worked for USG (Mine Superintendent), worked in uranium in New Mexico, and lastly Georgia Pacific (Chief Mine Engineer) until his retirement. David was a lifelong Master Gardener who enjoyed woodworking and collecting rocks. He was a Master Conservationist and member of the American Hosta Society as well as other various horticulture societies.
David is survived by his wife of 62 years: Peggy Moody of Fort Dodge; 2 children: Michael Moody of Wall Lake, IA and Gregory Moody of Georgia; and 2 grandchildren: Jacob and Erin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister: Alyce Leason.
