Donald Dean Herrick, 75 of Lehigh, died at the Trinity Regional Medical Center on April 30, 2013. A Celebration of Life and gathering will be Sunday at the Lehigh Senior Citizens Center from 1pm to 4pm.

Donald Dean Herrick was born March 25, 1938 in Lehigh, Iowa to Roy and Mabel (Rounds) Herrick. He grew up in the Lehigh area and graduated from Lehigh High School in 1957. Don served in the National Guard until being discharged in 1962. Don was united in marriage to Joyce Ludwig in 1963 and to this union one son David was born. Don worked for Lehigh Sewer Pipe and Tile Company for several years before becoming disabled. For the past 10 years he has been a rural carrier for the Fort Dodge Messenger.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked watching baseball, especially the Cubs. Don enjoyed listening to country western music and watching horse racing. He was a member of the Lehigh Lions Club and took a very active role in the Lehigh River Days. Don was especially proud to have been sober for the past 39 years. Don was a member of AA and worked as a counselor at the Fort Dodge Correctional Prison and at Community and Family Resources. On April 30, 2013 Donald Dean Herrick died at the Trinity Regional Medical Center. He is survived by his son David of Des Moines. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister; Gene (Arlene) Herrick, Gary Wayne Herrick and Janie Herrick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Larry and Bill, and sister Darlene.
