Donald Whittington

Donald B Whittington 87 of Fort Dodge died at his home on Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge with Rev. John Hembry officiating Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to services. Full Military Honors will be at the church following service by the Fort Dodge VFW and Iowa National Guard. Interment will be at a later date.

Donald B. Whittington was born September 6, 1927 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Hurley and Gladys (Cotton) Whittington. He attended Fort Dodge Public School. Don served in the United States Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Joann Nelsen on December 5, 1964. The family resided in Fort Dodge where Don worked for Coats Company for 20 years, drove Semi for 3 years and for Fort Dodge Public Schools for 10 years, retiring in 1961. Don enjoyed family events, always attending his grandchildrens sporting events and activities. He enjoyed collecting coins and antiques and going to garage sales and auctions.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the coin club.

He is survived by his wife Joann of Fort Dodge, daughter Sheryl Merrill of Florida, grandchildren; Taylor, Mackenzie, Kaylee, Julia and Kadin Whittington and daught-in-law Sharyn Whittington all of Des Moines, granddaughters Rachel and Darlene, 2 great grandsons; Collin and Cayden all of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Kevin on July 8, 2015.
