Dorothy White

Dorothy D. White, 94 of Fort Dodge died May 1, 2015 at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Funeral services with Pastor Ronald Dunsdon officiating will be Monday, May 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.

at the Friendship Haven Celebration Center. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.

Dorothy White was born November 28, 1920 in St. Lawerence, South Dakota to Ralph and Opal (Dennis) Calkins. She attended schools in South Dakota and Lake Benton, MN before moving to Lehigh, Iowa. Dorothy graduated from Lehigh High School. She was united marriage to Marvin White in 1939 and the couple established their home in Coalville. Dorothy was head of Coalville Red Cross during World War II and also a girl scout leader and active in P.T.A. She worked at Globe Union as a process inspector for 15 years and then became an occupational therapist at Trinity Regional Hospital for 15 years, retiring in 1983. In 1953 Dorothy joined Community of Christ Church in Coalville, where she served as Sunday School Superintendent, woman's leader and youth leader. In 1991 she was ordained a teacher in priesthood of the church. Dorothy was also a member of the Fort Dodge Woman's Club, The Red Hats, a member of TTT and active in Church Women United. Her hobbies included all crafts, collecting bears, old world santas and angels. She gathered many of these from her trips all over the United States, France, England, Ireland, Hawaii, Australia and Canada.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Kay Strauss of West Des Moines, Iowa and son, Kendall White of Weeki Watchi, FL; four grand children and 8 great grand children. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin and two brothers, Burris and Melvin.

Memorials are preferred by the discretion of the family.
