Douglas “Doug” L. Thompson, 76, of Otho, IA, died Monday, December 22, 2025, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center. A private family inurnment will take place at the Otho Cemetery Columbarium. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge.
Douglas was born December 6, 1949, in Fort Dodge, the son of Jessie and Beaulah (Wiegert) Thompson. He graduated from Scranton High School in 1969. On October 13, 1969, he was united in marriage to Vicki L. Flowers at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. Doug worked at Celotex for 45 years before his retirement in 2012. Doug loved stock car racing and helping his brother in Boone as well as attending the races in Fort Dodge. He also enjoyed his morning coffee at the Otho Convenience Store.
Doug is survived by his wife of 56 years: Vicki Thompson of Otho; 2 children: Jeffrey “Jeff” Thompson of Fort Dodge and Dawn Bliss and husband Brad of Kuwait; 1 brother: Kenneth Thompson and wife Linda of Persia, IA; and sister-in-law: Gayle Thompson of Des Moines. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 siblings: Kay Dollar, Lorraine Renewanz, James Thompson, Barry Thompson, Verle Thompson and Carlie “Chip” Thompson; and sister-in-law: Cindy Thompson.
