Douglas "Doug" W. Wegman

Douglas “Doug” W. Wegman, 76, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton, IA. A celebration of life gathering will be held from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Kennedy Park (open shelter house – by the playground) with Military honors by the VFW Post 1856 and U.S. Navy Honor Guard at 2:30 PM. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge. 

Douglas was born July 24, 1949, in Fort Dodge, the son of Swede and Gloria Wegman. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1967. In November of 1967, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in September of 1969. Doug was a truck driver for many years. On June 13, 2015, he was united in marriage to Sharon (Alfred) at Epworth United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. Throughout his years, Doug found joy in a variety of pastimes that reflected both his connection to the outdoors and his sociable nature. He had a particular fondness for ginsenging and hunting for mushrooms, pursuits that showcased his appreciation for the natural world and its quiet rewards. His passion extended to driving trucks, a vocation and pastime that spoke to his sense of duty and adventure on the open road. Doug’s social life was vibrant; he cherished the moments spent with friends, sharing stories and laughter. His routine visits to McDonald’s for breakfast accompanied by a nice cup of coffee were among the simple rituals that brought him happiness and a sense of comfort.

Doug is survived by his wife of nearly 11 years: Sharon Dupuy of Fort Dodge; 3 step-children: Norma Dupuy and significant other Ryan of Lake Mills, IA, Larry Dupuy and wife Amy of Fort Dodge, and Marlene Schossow and husband Joseph Sr. of Sioux Rapids, IA; 5 step grandchildren: Shelby Eyrich and husband Paul of Fort Dodge, Ashley Gronewold and husband Marcus of Britt, IA, Desteny Dupuy of Fort Dodge, Joseph Schossow Jr. of Fort Dodge and Karabeth Deaton and husband Drake of Mason City, IA; and 9 step great grandchildren: Paul Eyrich Jr., Robert Eyrich, Hailiegh Eyrich, Lenix Eyrich, Maxten Eyrich, Luna Schossow, Zerlyn Gronewold, Brixley Gronewold and Bronsyn Gronewold. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews; and best friend: Raymond Curtis of Grandview Care Center in Dayton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife: Donna; son: Virgil Rose; 3 siblings: Gary Wegman, Mark Wegman and Kathi Ponsar; and step great grandson: Awsten Eyrich.
