Douglas “Doug” Van Thorson, 62, of Fort Dodge, died Friday, March 19, 2004 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at the Riverside United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Harry Imlay. Interment will follow in the Fort Dodge Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday March 22, 2004 at Bruce-Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Douglas Van Thorson was born January 11, 1942 the son of Russell and Dorothy (Hinds) Thorson in Fort Dodge, IA. He was raised in the Somers, IA area and later graduated from Cedar Valley High School in the Class of 1959.

On November 15, 1963 Doug was united in marriage to Sondra Trainer at the Riverside United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. He was employed at the Iowa Beef Packing Plant for 23 years.

Doug was very proud of his family; he followed his children’s sporting activities as well as enjoying his grandchildren’s active lives. His family held a very fond spot in his heart. Doug was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching all the “Big Games” on TV. He was an active participant of bowling and golfing. In his spare time he kept busy with his numerous woodworking projects.

Doug was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Sons of Legionaries, the American Legion Golf Course, and A.A.

Those thankful for having shared in Doug’s life include his wife, Sondra, mother, Dorothy Thorson of Fort Dodge, one son, Robert (Kristin) Thorson of Omaha, NE, one daughter, Lynnette (David) Heatherington of Fort Dodge, three sisters, Jeri (Denny) Chase of Otho, Jeanne Howrey of St. Bluff, IA, and Mariann (Rich) Penner of Lakewood, CO, four grandchildren, Kyle and Kristina Heatherington, and Zoe and Alyssa Thorson, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Thorson was preceded in death by his father Russell, and one brother, Jon Thorson.
