Edward B. Ozimek, 94, died Friday, February 06, 2004 while he was visiting at the home of his daughter in Waterloo, IA. Edward Ozimek has been a resident of Fort Dodge for seventy years.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 11, 2004, at Bruce’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Officiating will be the Reverend Evelyn D. Lewiston. Burial will be held in Callender Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, February 10, at Bruce’s Funeral Home.

Ed was born on October 22, 1909, the son of Sophia (Kuran) and John Ozimek in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1928 he graduated from the Valley Junction High School in West Des Moines. On October 22, 1968, he was united in marriage in Alton, IL to Alice Hanson. Ed was a man who loved to work and was devoted to Mitchell Dental Laboratory where he retired at the age of 75. Edward was the oldest member of the Golden Kiwanis in Fort Dodge.

His family has fond memories of Ed being Mr. Fix-It. He always seemed to know how to build it or repair it. Ed loved knowledge and believed that education was the most important priority for his family. Reading was a passion, and it kept his mind sharp. His life was filled with many loves. He loved to cook and eat barbecued ribs. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed gardening and grew beautiful flowers. He truly loved all aspects of nature. Ed and his daughters created many memories during their walks in Kennedy Park and along the beach in Westport, CT. Ed loved to laugh and to bring laughter to others, especially friends and family. His greatest love in life was his family, and he enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Edward’s memories will be cherished by his daughters Janet (Howard) Van Note of Waterloo, IA, and Dr. Judith (retired Col. Leonard) Rovins of Westport, CT; his grandchildren, Lane (Erin) McCumsey and their children Cassidy and Camdyn of Brainerd, MN, and Scott (Cori) McCumsey of Silver Bay, MN.

Edward is preceded in death by his loving wife, Alice, and his parents, two sisters and a brother. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Fort Dodge Public Library. Persons wishing to send greetings or condolences to his daughters and family may do so online.
