Ellen L. Thorson

Memorial services for Ellen L. Thorson 91 of Fredericksburg, formerly of Fort Dodge will be Friday, March 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home in Fort Dodge. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be an hour prior to services. Ellen Louise Thorson died March 15, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton, Iowa after a short illness.

She was born on July 6, 1922 in Lundgren, Iowa to Steven W. and Margaret M. (Elsberry) Manchester.  She graduated from Burnside Consolidated High School in 1941.  She worked for Rodenborns in Fort Dodge making Army fatigues during WWII.

She married Air Force Cadet, Jacob A. Thorson in 1943.  To this marriage, two children were born, Deborah L. and Kirk A. Thorson. After Ellens husband, Jacob, completed his tour of duty in the Air Force, they moved to Ft. Dodge, Iowa for a short time and then to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where they owned and operated Duncans Photography Studio.  Ellen worked as a salesperson and was the receptionist.  She retired in 1982. Following her husbands death Ellen moved to Fredericksburg, Iowa to be closer to her family. She is survived by her daughter Deborah (Jim) Reisner of Fredericksburg, Iowa, three grandchildren, Jolyn (Wade) Puffer of Marion, Iowa, Shaun (Laura) Reisner of Fredericksburg, Iowa and Jared Gunn of Riviera Beach, Florida, and three great grandchildren, Jordyn Puffer, Jaden Gunn and Kierra Gunn. She is preceded in death by her husband Jacob A. Thorson, and her son Kirk A. Thorson, her parents, Steven W. and Margaret M. Manchester and her two brothers, Steven (Bud) Manchester and Walter Manchester. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ of Fredericksburg, Iowa.
