Elmer A. Dettmann

Elmer A. Dettmann, 91, of Fort Dodge, died Sunday, January 13, 2008 at the Marian Home.             Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Fuchs officiating.  Interment will follow in the North Lawn Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home.              Elmer was born May 18, 1916 the son of Rudolf and Ida (Laabs) Dettmann in Hutchinson, MN.             Elmer was united in marriage to Jeanette Engerbetsen.  Following Jeanettes death he was later united in marriage to Leona Brown.             Elmer was inducted into the United States Army on November 14, 1942 and honorably discharged on December 5, 1945.             Elmer loved the outdoors especially when he was able to be fishing.  He spent many hours in the kitchen cooking and baking; his favorite was to bake cookies.  While living in Florida, Elmer volunteered his time cooking and preparing the meals at the German Club.  He was passionate and protective of his time spent with his wife and great grandchildren.  Elmer always had time to catch the Twins.             Those left to cherish his memory include his wife; Leona, one son; Russell (Alice) Dettmann, five grandchildren; Dennis (Wendy) Dettmann, Christine Dettmann, Andrew (Sarah) Dettmann, Joseph (Sarah) Dettmann, Rebecca (Ross) Gish and six great grandchildren.             Mr. Dettmann was preceded in death by his parents, first wife; Jeanette, one sister; Mabel and one brother; Virgil.
