Emily Joy Averill

Emily Joy Averill, 18, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, died June 19, 2011.  She was born November 14, 1992.  She was the daughter of Katie and Tim Averill and the sister of Megan and Jimmy.

 

         

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday June 25, 2011 at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Monsignor Kevin McCoy officiating.  Interment will follow in the Corpus Christi Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at the church with a vigil service to begin at 7:30 p.m.

           

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to help preserve her memory.

        

Emily was a 2011 graduate of St. Edmond High School where she participated in many activities, including cheerleading, Chamber Choir, tennis and musical productions.  She was on the Honor Roll all four years, was a finalist for the Carol Donnelly Award, and was on the 2010 Homecoming Court at St. Edmond High School.  She was acknowledged in the Iowa High School Musical Association. She was chosen as an Iowa All-State Cheerleader for three years.  She was a member, coach and choreographer for the United All-Stars in Fort Dodge and also was chosen as an Iowa State Shrine Bowl cheerleader for two years.

         

She is survived by her parents, Katie and Tim, her sister Megan, and her brother Jimmy, her grandmother Veronica Averill, her grandfather Ort Mills, and aunts and uncles:  Amy (Scott) Bailey, Julie (Jim) Walstrom, Jane (Steve) Johnson, Dick (Kathy) Mills, Peggy (Dave) Matlock, John (Annette) Mills, and 16 cousins.

         

She was preceded in death by her grandmother Jeanne Mills, and her grandfather James Averill.

         

Emily planned to attend Iowa Central Community College next year where she was awarded a cheerleading scholarship. 

         

Emily loved her family dearly and she had many friends from all circles of her life who were very important to her.  All will remember her infectious smile.

         

Emily Joy… perfectly named.  She gave JOY to so many and it will be her everlasting legacy.
