Rev. Ernest E. Basye, 91, son of the Rev. E.O. and Rose Basye was born October 10, 1913, in the Methodist parsonage in Winston, MO and left this earthly life on December 27, 2003, at the Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort Dodge.

He was married to Mary Mason in her church in Amity, MO, on May 3, 1936. He was the father of 5 sons Tommy, who died May 5, 1950, Jack and his wife Jeannie of Scottsdale, AZ, the late Jim Basye and wife Sue of Hampton, IA, John and wife Sandy of Glenwood, IA, and Jerry and wife Vyrdel of Concordia, MO. He had 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Opal Reidenbach of Lee’s Summit, MO.

Ernest was known to all as “Preach” and he and Mary shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. They spent their last years together at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, IA.

Ernest was an ordained United Methodist Pastor for over 65 years serving in Westboro, MO, Ackley/Parkersburg, IA, Dysart, IA, Grundy Center, IA, West Union, IA, Glenwood, IA, and Early, IA.

Preach was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed.

Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at the Chapel in the Heritage Apartments, Friendship Haven, Fort Dodge, IA. Chaplain Bill Trembly will officiate.
