Evelyn L. Stell, 92, Fort Dodge, died Thursday, December 06, 2012 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 8, at 11:00 a.m. at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home in Fort Dodge with the Rev. Jim Barnett of Riverside United Methodist Church officiating.  Visitation will be Sat. 10:00 until the time of service. Burial will be the North Lawn Cemetery.

Evelyn Lucille Stell was born July 23, 1920, on the family farmstead near Pomeroy, Iowa to Grover and Mary Nadine (Greene) Briggs.  As a small child, she moved with her family to Fort Dodge and attended Riverside School and graduated in 1940 from Fort Dodge Senior High School.  During school she worked at Royal 4 Hundred and continued to work there after graduation. This is where she met her future husband, Richard Stell.  On December 24, 1940, Evelyn was united in marriage to Richard Stell in Fort Dodge.  The couple settled on a farm near Barnum, and a short time later moved to Fort Dodge. Evelyn was very active during her life. She devoted her life to taking care of people doing home health care and sitting for people who needed help. She enjoyed baking, cooking and gardening.  Sewing was a favorite pastime, she sewed curtains for the Warden Hotel. Evelyn was known to be very political. She was an avid reader and writer, writing in her journal daily. She enjoyed traveling all across the country visiting such places as Alaska, Canada and the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Evelyn loved spending time at the cabin on Twin Lakes and going to Oleson Park.   Frequent visits to Heinz Hospital, taking homemade bread and cookies to the wounded soldiers was very important to her. Evelyn really enjoyed taking care of children, she babysat often for area families.  She loved going to auctions and estate sales.  She was a faithful member of Riverside United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children: Janet Dahlke of Manson, Jacqueline (Dean) Tussing of Fort Dodge, Rick (Judy) Stell of Fort Dodge, and Josette (Denny) Wyatt of Barnum. 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.  Also survived by sisters; Ruby Hurely of Fort Dodge, Nancy Olson of Minneapolis, and brother, Eugene “Pat” Briggs of Fallon, Nevada.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Peggy Hanig, and Gladys Conroy, and her husband Richard.
