Memorial Services for Gary Bruce Moon, age 69 of Fort Dodge, will be Tuesday, October 29th at 7:00 p.m. at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home in Fort Dodge. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Gary was born January 19, 1944 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The son of Edward Marion and Helen Louise (Grooters) Moon, he was attended school in Fort Dodge and graduated from Iowa Central Community College with a vocational technical degree as a machinist/welder.

On September 19, 1980, Gary was married to Esther Waszko in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Together they made their home in Fort Dodge. For over 40 years Gary was self-employed as an over the road truck driver. In 2005 he became business partners with Rob Hagen at Hagen Auto where he worked primarily on small engines.

Gary had a passion for radio controlled airplanes. He was a member of the Fort Dodge RC Club and Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed cooking and grilling.

On Sunday afternoon, October 20, 2013, Gary died suddenly at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Preceding him in death was his father; a brother, Commander Ed Marion Moon, Jr; and a niece, Casey Schoepke.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Esther of Fort Dodge; children, Matt(Kendra) Chapman of Cornelius, Oregon and Tiffany (Daniel) Smith of Fort Dodge; his mother, Helen Moon of Burlington, Iowa; six grandchildren, Kelsey and Colton Chapman and Kaitlynn, Illyssa, Angelyn, and Halle Austin; two sisters, Linda (Don) Baker of Burlington, Iowa and Kathy (Lenis) Schoepke of Littleton, Colorado; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Delbert) Tabbert of Fort Dodge; a nephews, Troy, Greg and Derek; a nieces, Toni, Cheryl, Shonda, Noel, Elizabeth, Angela and Rebecca; also several great nieces and nephews.
