Gertrude M. Pierce, 83, of Fort Dodge, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2004 at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Officiating will be the Capt. Mark Nance of the Salvation Army. Interment will follow in North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Gertrude was born June 4, 1921 the daughter of Frank and Bessie (Hunefeld) Smith in Manilla, IA. On April 17, 1940 Gertrude was united in marriage to Everett Truman Pierce in Webster City, IA. To this union 7 children were born. Gertrude loved working with her hands sewing and doing embroidery work. She looked forward to canning the bountiful harvest from her prized garden and picking raspberries. She loved sitting with and spoiling her grandchild. Gertrude also enjoyed socializing with her friends and family, listening to country music, and traveling on numerous trips to Alaska and Nashville, TN. Those thankful for having shared in Gertrude’s life include her children, Everett “Bud” (Jan) Pierce of Moline, IL, Andrew Lee (Barb) Pierce of Anchorage, Alaska, Jon (Janet) Pierce of Clare, Roy (Diane) Pierce of Des Moines, Susan (Bill) Sudbrock of Lacona, IA, and Julie (Bob) Reeks of Omaha, NE, one sister, Evelyn Wendell of Fort Dodge, 20 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by her parents, husband Everett on Nov. 15, 1984, an infant son, Richard Allen Pierce in May of 1950, and 2 brothers, Victor and Frank Smith.
