Hazel Fitzner, 91, of Fort Dodge, died Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House.

         

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Community of Christ, Coalville.  Interment will follow in the North Lawn Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 9 until service time on Friday at the church.

         

Hazel was born on November 1, 1918 in Coalville, the daughter of Almer and Eleanor (Lumsden) Jordison.  She attended and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School.  Following high school Hazel went on to further her education at Drake University where she earned her Bachelors of Science degree.  She later taught school near Clare, Gypson, Shady Oak, Coalville, Otho and Indianola.  In February of 1943 Hazel was united in marriage to Tony Fitzner.  To this union a son David was born.

         

Hazel loved to travel and search for antiques as she went.  She also enjoyed sewing and reading in her spare time.  Hazel was a great influence and mentor to her students throughout her years of teaching.

         

Those thankful for having shared in Hazels life include her sister in law, Jean Jordison, nephew, Lanie (Melanie) Jordison, niece, Karen Fitzner, niece, Julie (Keith) Brown and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

         

Mrs. Fitzner was preceded in death by her parents, Almer and Eleanor (Lumsden) Jordison, husband, Tony, son, David Fitzner, brother, David Jordison, sister, Erma Fitzner, brother in law, Otto Fitzner.
