Irma Eleanor Secor, 94, of Fort Dodge, died Sunday May 22, 2011 at her home.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the lives of Lauren and Irma Secor will be held Thursday June 16, 2011 from 5 until 8 p.m. with a time of sharing at 6 p.m. in the Trinity United Methodist Church fellowship hall.
Irma was born May 10, 1917 the daughter of Samuel and Jenny (Stevens) Cross in Howard, SD. Following her formal education Irma began teaching school in rural Jasper County. After a couple of years she decided to continue her education and went back to Beauty School. She went on to be a beautician owning her own shop in Baxter for 5 years. Irma then went on to raise her two children and work along side her husband on the farm.
On October 15, 1938 Irma was united in marriage to Lauren Secor. The couple moved to rural Fort Dodge in 1952.
Irmas passion for quilting had her at Trinity United Methodist Church every Tuesday for several years to enjoy her social quilting time with friends. She was an avid gardener who looked forward to the spring planting, all the hard summer work and the rewards of canning her bountiful harvest. Over the years she was active in several church activities, a 4-H leader, active in Farm Bureau and was Chairwoman of the Farm Bureau Women. She was a long time member of the Republican Party and the Trinity United Methodist Church.
Those thankful for having shared in Irmas life include her children, James (Margaret) Secor of Chariton, Iowa, Nancy (Edwin) Spire of Webster City, Iowa, one sister, Neva Smith, fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
