James Erven Thoreson

A Celebration of Life will be held for James Erven Thoreson on Monday, January 27, at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Jackson, MN. Visitation is at the church on Sunday, January 26th from 3-7 p.m. with memory sharing at 6 p.m.  He died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. James Erven Thoreson was born on September 21, 1957 to Vlasta (Censky) and Erven Thoreson in Jackson, MN. He went to one year of country school before attending Lakefield Public Schools and graduated in 1975. Jim went on to further his education at the University of Minnesota graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Jim worked briefly at the Extension Office in Benson, MN before returning to the family farm in 1980.  He was an active member of Belmont Lutheran Church where he served as president, secretary, treasure, and deacon.  He was also a member of the Lakefield Jaycees. Jim served on the Belmont Townboard from 1999 up to the time of his death. On July 10, 1999 he married Jackie Kulow at Belmont Lutheran Church in rural Jackson, MN. The couple then made their home on the family farm.

Left to cherish Jims memories are his wife, Jackie; sister ElaineThoreson, Mantorville,MN; brother Dave (Judy) Thoreson, Roseville, MN; brother-in-laws Steve(Myra Snyder) Kulow, Estherville, IA; Tim (Joy) Kulow, Fort Dodge, IA; sister-in-laws, Shelly (Roger) Schmitt, Graettinger, IA; Tammy (Don) Bonner, Estherville, IA; Julie Bonner, Estherville, IA; Kathy (Rod) Foster, Armstrong, IA; Uncle Harry Censky, Aunts Doris Thoreson and Violet Censky, all of Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Erven and Vlasta Thoreson; in-laws Elroy and Genny Kulow, and brother-in-law Rick Bonner. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Belmont Lutheran Church and Dougherty Hospice House.
