Joan Elizabeth Mahan

Joan Elizabeth Mahan, 78, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton, IA. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Lighthouse Ministries, 1333 4th Avenue North – Fort Dodge, with Rev. John Elkin officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A private family interment will take place at Saint Jacobs Cemetery in Graettinger, IA. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge. 

Joan was born October 16, 1947, in Estherville, IA, the daughter of Francis “Frank” James and Irene Bernice (Marr) Mahan. She graduated from Estherville High School in 1965. Over the years, she worked as a housekeeper in the medical/hospital field. Joan enjoyed reading, puzzles and socializing at coffee group. She was a member of Lighthouse Ministries and past member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Club. Joan was a dedicated follower of the Lord.

Joan is survived by 3 children: Michael Douglass Jr. and wife Jennifer of Fort Dodge, Terry Douglass of Primghar, IA, and Melissa Wiley and husband Bill of Emmetsburg, IA; 9 grandchildren: Phillip Douglass and wife Grayson, Branden Wiley and wife V.K, Felicia Beekman and husband Tommy, Vanessa Hopkins and husband Chandler, Kyra Douglass, Joseph Douglass and wife Abbie, Ben Douglass, Breanna Douglass and Darian Marsh; 17 great grandchildren: Elijah, Bianca, Matthias, Atticus, Ozais, William, Matthew, Kingston, Kinnick, Kinsley, Teran, Talen, Lincoln, Cheyan, Chloe, Hazelee and Draven; and 1 brother: Don Mahan and wife Pat of Colorado. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son: Tony Douglass; brother: Frank Mahan; and sister: Shirley Mahan.
