John J Ganeff

Funeral services for John Joseph Ganeff, 72 of Fort Dodge will be Monday, May 12, 2014 at 10:30 at First United Methodist Church of Fort Dodge with Rev Andrea  Kraushaar officiating.  Visitation will be Sunday, May 11^th from 2pm to 4pm at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh.  John died May 6, 2014 at his home.

John Joseph Ganeff was born March 1, 1942 in Lehigh, Iowa to John B. and Velma (Nibel) Ganeff.  He graduated from Lehigh Independent High School. He attended Simpson College where he attained his BA in history.  John was united in marriage to Judith Hoffman on June 14, 1963 and they divorced on September 2, 1981.  John attended the University of Chicago Divinity School and graduated with a BD Degree in 1968 and then a Masters Degree in 1976. He was driven by a passion for studying religion, learning how to read and write in both Greek and Hebrew.  John drove taxi cab for Checker Cab in Chicago for many years. He enjoyed reading especially detective, mystery and theology books. He enjoyed visiting his friends at Friendship Center and especially liked attending the Hawkeye Theater with long time friend Bonnie Wertz. John was a long time member of the Presbyterian Church but most recently joined First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two sons; John “Greg” Ganeff of Chicago, IL and Peter (Bess) Ganeff of Loveland, OH, granddaughter Elizabeth, sister, Susan (Howard) Moore of Ames; and brother, James (Wanda) Ganeff  of Lehigh. He is also survived by five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
