Jonathan Ray Long, 58, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Monday, June 8, 2026, at his home. Services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge.
Jonathan was born August 6, 1967, in Fort Dodge, IA, the son of Jackie Ray and Sheila Elaine (Horton) Long. He graduated from Lewis County High School in Weston, West Virginia in 1985. On October 28, 1986, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on May 16, 1991. He remained in the reserves until September 19, 1994. As a Corporal E-4, he was awarded the National Defense Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Rifle Expert Badge, Field Artillery and SW Asia Service Medal. Jon enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in the yard and playing cribbage. He loved playing guitar and had a gift for music and art.
Jon is survived by 2 children: Amanda Sandvick and husband Jake of Shell Rock, IA and Brandon Long and wife Caitlyn of Emmetsburg, IA; 4 grandchildren; and 5 siblings: Chris Lennon and husband Britt of Fort Dodge, David Long and wife Billie of Moorland, IA, Daniel Long of Clarion, IA, James Long of Clare, IA and Michael Long and wife Tiffanie Long of Lamont, IA. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 siblings: Thomas Long and Charles Long; and special uncle: Gary Long.
