Joyce Ann Johnson, 94, of Dayton, IA, and formerly of Lehigh, IA, died Saturday, January 17, 2026, at her home surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South – Fort Dodge, with Chaplain Gary Snook officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM. Interment will take place at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge.
Joyce was born August 4, 1931, in Burnside, IA, the daughter of Irvin L. and Luella (Burke) Heitkamp. She graduated from Lehigh High School in 1950. On June 9, 1956, she was united in marriage to Donald Dee Johnson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dayton, IA. They were blessed with three daughters: Dee, Julie, and Jennifer. Joyce was a homemaker who deeply loved her family – especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joyce and Donnie enjoyed traveling and over the years took many trips to Missouri and Arkansas with friends. Joyce also enjoyed golfing, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, spending time with her wonderful friends and journaling since 1959. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Dayton as well as St. Paul Lutheran Church in Webster City. She was active in church group and a member of the Lehigh Woman’s Club.
Joyce is survived by 2 daughters: Dee Tubbs of Dayton and Julie (Phil) Cooney of Duncombe, IA; 5 grandchildren: Vanessa (Daven) Glaspie, Jesse Johnson, Rebecca (Joe) Nelson, Derek (Ingrid) Cooney, Rhaea (Shane) Burgin, and Carter Cooney; 10 great grandchildren: Natalee, Brielle, Bianca, Hudson, Evelynne, Forrest, Wesley, Ophelia, Luella and Theda. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2018; daughter: Jennifer in infancy; sister: Faye (Jack) Daniels; and brother: Irvin (Rita) Heitkamp Jr.
