Lavern Allen Peterson, Sr.

Lavern Allen Peterson Sr. (Pete) born in Fort Dodge December 29, 1921, started driving trucks again with the  Lord on Thursday September 15, 2011.  Funeral services will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on Tuesday September 20th, at 10:30 a.m.  Interment will follow in the North Lawn Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Walter Porsch V.F.W. Post 1856.  Visitation will be held Monday September 19th   from 5-7 p.m. at Bruce-Graham Funeral Home.

            Following his graduation from High School, he worked at many mechanical and trucking businesses. For many years Pete did trucking for Mallinger Truck line; owned and operated the Sears Delivery trucks; operated the All- American Freight Services, continuing into his 80's delivering vehicles for Auto Dealers in the community.

           

 

He was united in marriage to Carole M. Halverson for over 40years.  Pete was called to service during World War II from 1942-1945 with an honorable discharge.  He was blessed this past spring with being a part of the Honor Flight to Washington D.C., attending with his oldest Great Grandson, Steven Peterson. 

 

           

He was a life time member of the American Legion Post, the Veterans of Foreign War, and many yrs an active member of the Noon Lions.  Pete was a long time member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, holding many different positions throughout his years.

           

Pete is survived by his dear friend Ermadale Strom, son Richard (Linda) Peterson Webster City, daughters, Pamela Butterley, Jacksonville, Fl, and Anita Michael, Fort Dodge and his Sister Erma Scharfenberg, Sterling, IL.   Preceding him in death where his parents L. Walter & Minnie (Gienap), wife Carole, son Lavern A Peterson Jr, granddaughter Holly Michael, and brothers, Charles, and L. Walter Jr. sisters, Mildred Heuser, Ethlyn Stirler, and Ermal Davey.  Part of him lives on by his surviving Grandchildren, Scott, Brent, Jeremy Peterson, Chad Michael,   and his five Great Grandchildren, Steven, Jeffery, Keaton, Shelby Peterson and Averey Martin.  Pete also leaves memories with many remaining family and friends.

           

Pete, never met a stranger, had a smile to share with everyone, and maybe a story to tell ""true of course"", and can any of his sister-in-laws forget ""your"" his favorite.  Our lives have been blessed by his work ethic, his knowledge, his love of being a truck driver, his compassion for those hurting and the joy he had in helping the church he so loved.

           

n Lieu of flowers memorials may be donated in his memory to the Brushy Creek Honor Flight Project.
