Leota C. Swift, 76, of Fort Dodge, died Friday, May 14, 2004 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at the First Baptist Church, 28 N 10th St., Fort Dodge, with the Pastor Stephen Fagerburg officiating. Interment will follow in the Washington Township Cemetery, Duncombe. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2004 at the Bruce~Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

Leota was born June 22, 1927 in Harrisburg, PA. On December 25, 1947 Leota was united in marriage to Donald Swift in Carlisle, PA.

Leota was currently employed as a cook at the Sandstone Inn where she had worked since 1971.

Leota loved the thrill of a good bingo game and the excitement of putting her nickels into the slot machines. She could often be found deeply engrossed in one of many novels. She enjoyed collecting her porcelain dolls, doing needle point, and working with ceramics. Leota also enjoyed spending time in her garden, taking care of others, and being with her family and good friends.

Those thankful for having shared in Leota’s life include her children, Don Swift Jr. of Fort Dodge, James (Jan) Wynkoop of Lititz, PA, Barry Swift of Atlanta, GA, Allen (Melanie) Swift of Sioux City, IA, Dennis Swift of Fort Dodge, Charleen Doty of Mesa, AZ, Linda (Frank) Hill of Mentone, Alabama, Brenda Cornman of Lino Lakes, MN, Necia Bass of Fort Dodge, Diana Markert of Richmond, VA, and Rhonda (Harry) Summers of Fort Dodge, two brothers, Jack and James, four sisters, Shirley, Joan, Patti, and Donna all of Pennsylvania, 27 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, and good friends, Fred Williams, Ruby Mehring, and Joe and Verna Anderson.

Mrs. Swift was preceded in death by her husband Don on Sept. 1, 1985, one son Kevin Swift, one grandson Patrick Vinsand, and 2 brothers, Dick and Ron.

Leota was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Dodge.
