Linda Mehaffey, 80, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge.
Linda was born September 8, 1945, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Evelyn (Brock) and Elmer Leadley. She graduated from Rolfe Community High School in 1963, and continued her education at Burnell College of Cosmetology in Fort Dodge. On May 10, 1964, she was united in marriage to Dennis Mehaffey at the Rolfe Methodist Church in Rolfe, IA. Over the years, she worked at Butler Elementary School (lunchroom lady) and later managed Karmelkorn, Orange Julius and Pizza Zeppole located within the Crossroads Mall. Following her retirement in 2007, she would take yearly trips with her husband to Texas, Montana and Utah to visit their son. Linda enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She gifted many afghans over the years. It was important to her that each newborn and graduate in her life received one of her special handmade blankets. Linda also enjoyed reading, tending to her flower & vegetable gardens, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones and Indiana Fever. She looked forward to her daily scratch tickets and monthly casino runs. Above all – she loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Linda is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years: Dennis Mehaffey of Fort Dodge; her twin children: Lisa (Scott) Springer of Fort Dodge and Lance (Starla) Mehaffey of Midway, UT; 5 grandchildren: Megan (Justin Avis) Springer of Granger, IA, Matthew (Kailee) Springer of West Des Moines, IA, Hayley (Sebastián) Rojas of Plano, TX, Austin Cox of Salt Lake City, UT, and Kenna (Aaron) Medina of Los Angeles, CA; 6 great grandchildren: Jayce, Rylee, Lily, Beckett, Aiden and Maya; sister: Nancy Calderón of Sacramento, CA; and sister-in-law: Pat Carmichael of Alta, IA. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Evelyn and Elmer Leadley; brother: Dennis Leadley; 2 brothers in childhood; and her mother & father-in-law: Gordon and Irene Mehaffey.
