November 7, 1917 — September 2, 2014

Lloyd E. Elg 96 of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, formerly of Fort Dodge, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Community in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at First Covenant Church in Fort Dodge with Pastor Allan Redenius officiating. Burial will be in Lost Grove Township Cemetery near Harcourt. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to services. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Bruce Funeral Home, Fort Dodge, Iowa.

 

Lloyd Enoch Elg was born November 7, 1917 in Harcourt, Iowa to Oscar and Ida (Peterson) Elg. He graduated from Harcourt High School in 1935 and attended Fort Dodge Junior College. On August 26, 1939, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Erickson at the Harcourt Covenant Church. Lloyd served in the United States Navy during World War II from August 1942 until October of 1945. After the service, he returned to Fort Dodge where he built the home in which he and Jeanette resided until October 2001 at which time they moved to Sauk Rapids.

 

Lloyd was a skilled carpenter and was employed by various building contractors in the Fort Dodge area prior to retiring in 1979. Jeanette died on April 16, 2009. He was a member of First Covenant Church where he served in many leadership positions and was a long time choir member. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 130 and a member of the Local 106 Carpenters Union. Lloyd enjoyed his family, particularly his grand children and his great grand children; fishing, woodworking, traveling and photography.

 

He is survived by his son Dr. Ronald (Marsha) Elg of Saint Cloud, Minnesota; two granddaughters, Holly (John David) Anderson, of Sartell, Minnesota and Heidi (Jason) Ness of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; five great grandchildren: Alexa, Connor, Brady Anderson and Levi and Riley Ness. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two brothers, Stanley and Ray Elg.

 

Memorials are preferred to either the First Covenant Church of Fort Dodge, Iowa or the Good Shepherd Foundation of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota.
