Martha May Ely Bass, was born February 19, 1944, in Iowa City, Iowa. The daughter of the late, Albert Ely and Dolly West Ely, she grew up in the Fort Dodge Area, with her six siblings. She married Donald Bass on September 17, 1966. Together they shared over 30 years of marriage, and raised seven children, Susie, Jerry, Bob, Rosa, Todd, Terry and Amanda.

Martha loved caring for her husband, children, grand and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and cooking. She was well known for her collection of unique items she found at various stores, garage and rummage sales. On occasion, she would attend St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge.

On Sunday, May 5th, 2013, Martha died peacefully at her home in Fort Dodge.She lived 69 years, 2 months, and 16 days. Preceding her in death include her parents; husband, Donald in 2003; and three sisters, Evelyn, Mildred, and Hazel. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Susie Jackson of California, Jerry Fredericksen (wife, Martha) of Ackley, Bob Fredericksen of Mooreland, Rosa Lowe (husband, Danny) of Story City, Todd Fredericksen (wife, Tammy) of Rockwell City, Terry Bass of Fort Dodge, and Amanda Bass of Fort Dodge; three brothers, Ronald Ely of Fort Dodge, Clayton Ely of Northwood, and Larry Ely of Missouri; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation Saturday May 18th 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 11:30 a.m. at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  Private burial of the cremated remains will be at a later time.   In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family in remembrance of Martha Bass will be accepted.
