Mary Jane Bergstrom,84, of Decorah died Monday evening, January 24, 2005 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, IA.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Thursday, January 27th at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Grindberg officiating. Interment will be in the Fort Dodge Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin 12:00 pm Thursday at the church to service time.

Mary Jane Edson was born October 11, 1920 in Fort Dodge, IA to William Edward Edson and Bernice LeMerle Newsum. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1939. Mary continued her education at Tobin Business College. Mary was a secretary before her marriage to Raymond Berstrom March 8, 1943 in Fort Dodge, IA. She lived most of her life in Fort Dodge. She moved to Decorah in 1990. She was a homemaker, later employed by the YWCA in Fort Dodge.

Mary was previously an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Mary was a devoted mother and grandmother, and enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities. She was an avid Hawkeye fan attending many football and basketball games, and later loved to watch then on TV. In Fort Dodge she enjoyed her monthly card club and her many friends. She loved to travel with her husband Raymond before his death. She was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church.

She is survived by 2 sons; William Bergstrom (Connie) of Decorah, IA and John Bergstrom of Iowa City, IA; 5 grandchildren; Christine (Jeff) Privia of Underwood, IA, Troy (Wendy)Bergstrom of Minneapolis, MN, Brian (Melissa) Bergstrom of St. Louis, MO, Annika and Britta Bergstrom of Iowa City, IA; 4 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carrie Lee (George) Hayden of Eagle Grove, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, on August 9, 1984, and her mother and father.
