Melvin C Martinson

Memorial services for Melvin “Charlie Brown” Martinson 87 of Webster City, formerly of Fort Dodge, will be Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Ed Durand officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from 5pm to 7pm at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home in Fort Dodge.  Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Fort Dodge with full military honors provided by the Iowa National Guard and the Fort Dodge V.F.W.  He died Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City.

Melvin Chris Martinson was born April 4, 1930, and was raised in Greeno, North Dakota. He was born to Ethel Gayheart and Chris Martinson. He was united in marriage to Delores Grossnickle on January 18, 1951, Delores and Melvin had two children named Melvin E. Martinson (Butch) and Mary J. Martinson. Melvin went into the army in 1950 and was stationed in Germany for 3 years. In 1964, Melvin worked at Johnson Clayworks where a kiln blew up and caused him severe injury and brain damage. In 1980 he was moved from Knoxville, Iowa to the Webster County Home. In 1998, he moved to Greenleaf Nursing Home. In his free time, Melvin enjoyed riding his three wheeled bike and doing yard work. He was always friendly and had good spirits. Melvin would always sing and play his harmonica. Some of his favorite songs were “You are my Sunshine” and “Pistol Packing' Mama”. He always loved having his grandchildren come and visit him. He made many friends while he was in the nursing home. He was a favorite resident to all. In 2012, Melvin was moved to the Southfield Care Center in Webster City where he was picked to be the Valentine King. Grandpa had some nick names when he was a young. He was called Little Swede. In Knoxville he was nicknamed Charlie Brown. Our family always called him Grandpa Charlie.

He is survived by his son Melvin (Jean) Martinson, his grandchildren; Mark (Bridget) Martinson, Dan Martinson, Alissa (Rick) Andrews and Lori White. He is also survived by his great grandchildren; Whitney, Tyler, Austin, Kaitlyn, Tate, Grace, Brandy, Summer, Taylor and Rachel and three step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter and his great grandson Devin. Melvin lived to be 87 years old and in those 87 years he always seemed to be happy.
