Oswald T. Christensen, 85, of Gowrie, died Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Stewart Memorial Hospital, Lake City, IA.

      

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2011 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kent W. Wallace officiating.  Interment will follow in the Roland Township Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 1p.m. until service time on Monday at the church.

         

Oswald was born September 13, 1925 the son of Anton and Kristine (Rasmussen) Christensen in Sandstone, MN.  Following graduation from high school Oswald was inducted into the United States Army serving his country from August of 1944 until his honorable discharge in November of 1946.  After his service to his country, Oswald pursued his college education receiving his BA from Dana College in Blair, NE.

         

On August 7, 1949 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Hanson at the Roland Township Lutheran Church.  To this union five children were born.  Oswald was employed at several places with these being a few; Fort Dodge Messenger, Friendship Haven, owner-operator of the Clark Gas Station and Trinity Regional Hospital.

        

Oswald was good husband and father always working extremely hard to provide for his family.  He was very active in church and held the offices of Trustee and Deacon for several years.  He had a passion for scouting and had earned the Golden Beaver Award.  Following his retirement Oswald enjoyed his woodworking hobby more and more making many pieces of furniture for family and friends.  He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Callender.

         

Those thankful for having shared in Oswalds life include his wife Phyllis, children, Charles (Neva) Christensen, Carl (Celeste) Christensen, Cynthia (Mike) Heires, Cheri Manning, eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

         

Mr. Christensen was preceded in death by his parents, son, Craig, sister, Elfrida and brothers, Earl, Glen, Raymond and Arnold.
