Rev. George W. Den Hartog

Reverend George W. Den Hartog, 90, of Fort Dodge, died Wednesday March 19, 2008 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday March 22, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Haverland officiating. A flag presentation will be conducted by the Walter Porsch VFW Post 1856. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until service time at the church on Saturday.

George was born November 19, 1917 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Herman and Josephine Den Hartog. George graduated from East High School in Sioux City in 1936. He continued his education at Asbury College graduating in 1942. That same year George enlisted in the United States Army serving his country as a Chaplain. In 1951 George graduated from seminary and later began his ministerial career.

George was united in marriage to Nina Karroll, the couple later divorced and George was later united in marriage to Clara Ann Beacher.

George was an avid golfer spending hours teaching his grandchildren how to play and appreciate the game. He enjoyed puttering in the yard working in the garden and listening and playing music. George enjoyed people and visiting with everyone.

George is survived by his children; David (Karen) Den Hartog of Fort Dodge, IA, Karen Gohlke of Jackson, TN, step daughter; Ann (Bob) Wildt of Fort Dodge, IA, two sisters; Gertrude Paul of Sioux City, IA, Dolly Wilton of Sioux City, IA, grandchildren; Stephanie (Joel) Grout, Nicky Den Hartog, Allie Den Hartog, Mitch Den Hartog, Tina Brown, Adam Hart, Jon Hart, Amy Gohlke and step granddaughter; Lacey Wildt.

Mr. Den Hartog was preceded in death by his parents, first wife; Nina, second wife; Clara, one granddaughter; Wendy Hart, two sisters; Marie, Mildred and a brother; Herman.
