Robert Dean Dickerson, 81, of Fort Dodge, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Careage of Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Peters officiating. Interment will follow in the North Lawn Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Walter Porsch V.F.W. Post 1856. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Robert was born October 31, 1926 the son of Claude and Geraldine Dickerson. He grew up in Fort Dodge and later graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1944. Robert was very active in sports, playing on the varsity football and baseball teams for several years.

Robert went on to attend the University of Iowa and then earned a teaching degree from the Teachers College at Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp serving his country during the end of WWII and again during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged after earning the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

Robert returned to Fort Dodge to work in the automobile business and raise a family. He owned and operated Dickerson Motors for several decades before retiring and concentrating on his passion of investing.

Robert is survived by his four children; Jane (Walter) McLaughlin of Dubuque, Iowa, Joyce Bickford of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Robert Dickerson of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Thomas (Joelle) Dickerson of Iowa City, Iowa.

Mr. Dickerson was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother James Dickerson.

In addition to investing, Roberts other interests included reading, especially history in which he received his teaching degree, and following his favorite sports teams. Robert attended numerous Iowa Hawkeye football games in the 50s and 60s and St. Louis Cardinal Baseball games at the old Sportsmans Park. He enjoyed watching many Cardinal World Series games and championships through the years. Robert was also a big Kansas City Chief Football fan.
