Ronald “Ron” R. Larsen, 79, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Monday, April 8, 2024, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center.  A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South.  Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard at 6:30 PM.  Memorials may be directed to the family.  Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge. 

 

Ronald was born December 25, 1944, in Callender, IA, the son of Anker R. and Evelyn (Bush) Larsen.  He attended school in Moorland, IA.  In 1965, Ron proudly served in the U.S. Army, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his country until his honorable discharge in 1967.  He worked for Dr. McDonalds and UPS (27 years) until his retirement.  He found joy in various hobbies and interests, from passionately supporting the Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeyes to indulging in the thrill of watching Caitlin Clark showcase her talent. He enjoyed trips to Vegas, exploring garage sales for hidden treasures, and appreciated antiques as a collector of all things old. Additionally, he found camaraderie as a member of Dodger Tap.


 Ron is survived by his significant other and best friend Sheila Smith of Otho, IA; his loving daughters Brenda Larsen of Apache Junction, AZ, and Barbara Garretson of Fort Dodge; six grandchildren: Josh Bygness of Fort Dodge, Jennifer Bygness of Ankeny, IA, Jessica Bygness of Denver, CO, McKenzie Knudson of Fort Dodge, Jaycie (Ben) Lennon of Gowrie, IA, and Elijah Hernandez of Apache Junction; eleven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Terrie Larsen of Texas; along with many nieces and nephews.


 He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings: Everett Larsen and Patricia (Phil) Halligan.


 Ron will be deeply missed.
