Ruby I. Gilliland, 84, of Fort Dodge, died Thursday, October 27, 2005 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2005 at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Officiating will be the Rev. Gordon Watson of the First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Fort Dodge Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ruby was born April 6, 1921 the daughter of Harvey and Flossie (Martin) Finney in Shady Oak, IA. She later graduated from Pioneer High School.

On July 10, 1940 Ruby was united in marriage to John Henry Gilliland in Fort Dodge, IA. The couple made their home in Fort Dodge raising their nine children.

Ruby began working in the laundry division at Trinity Regional Medical Center on October 15, 1963 and retired on May 26, 1987.

Ruby enjoyed cooking, gardening, and playing “500” with her friends and family. Bird watching and embroidery work were done during her quiet time. Ruby was a member of TOPS.

Those thankful for having shared in Rubys life include her children; Sharon (Bob) Chism of Greenfield, IA, Myron (Ulla) Gilliland of LaSalle CO, Johnny (Diane) Gilliland of Humboldt, IA, Larry (Linda) Gilliland of Clare, IA, Jeff (Cheryl) Gilliland of Gretna, NE, Patricia (Rick) Sharkey of Omaha, NE, Colleen (Larry) Zeman of Fort Dodge, Connie (Steve) Caldwell of Fort Dodge, and Vicki (Jim) Fenske of Goldfield, IA, two sisters; Betty Melton of Des Moines, IA, Coletta Trotter of Fremont, NE, one brother; Jiggs Finney of Fort Dodge, IA, 30 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Mrs. Gilliland was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, 7 brothers; Martin, Algie, Ernest, Cecil, Harvey, Raymond, and Everett, and one great granddaughter; Courtney.
