Ruby L. Hasty

Ruby L. Hasty, 90, of Carroll, IA, and formerly of Otho, IA, died Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Carroll. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 13, 2020, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South, with Rev. John Elkin officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Elkhorn Township Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Ruby was born May 19, 1929, in rural Fort Dodge, the daughter of Ernest H. and Fannie E. (Cahail) Jondle. She attended country school through 8th grade before attending Otho School and graduating in 1947. She worked at Uncle John's Grocery in Fort Dodge from 1947 – 1949. On January 8, 1949, Ruby was united in marriage to Warren G. Hasty at the Otho Methodist Church. The couple owned and operated Hasty's Ice Cream in Harcourt, IA for 5 years as well as Hasty's Cafe (Lohrville, Callender and Churdan) from 1960 – 1974.  After 1974, she worked at Bowies Manufacturing in Lake City and General Electric in Carroll. Ruby retired in 1981. She loved to bake and was known for her home cooked meals. She enjoyed reading mystery/romance books, word puzzles and crocheting baby blankets, caps & bibs for her growing family and local hospitals. Ruby was a member of the Lohrville Methodist Church and the Otho United Methodist Church.

Ruby is survived by 4 daughters: Terry Garrett and husband Gary of Churdan, IA, Nancy Hayes and husband Joseph of Otho, Cindy Fay and husband Ron of Carroll, and Tracy Madlom and husband Steve of Manchester, IA; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; brother Leonard Jondle and wife Josephine of Promise City, IA; special friend Nancy Corey and honorary granddaughter Jennifer Stokes. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1983, 2 sisters: Dorothy Thissen and Joyce Flickinger, and 2 nieces: Susan Fuentes and Linda Jondle.
