Shirley E. Patterson

Shirley E. Patterson, 80, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.  Private family services will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be directed to the family.  Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge.  

Shirley was born August 20, 1943, in Webster County, IA, the daughter of Edwin and Pearl (Johnson) Hansch.   Shirley spent her formative years in Fort Dodge and later graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High.  She was united in marriage to Robert E. Patterson.  The couple later divorced.  Her dedication to her family was evident in every aspect of her life.  In addition to her role as a homemaker, Shirley found joy in various hobbies and interests. She was an avid gardener with a green thumb and was part of the Fort Dodge Garden Tour. Bird watching brought her closer to nature, while playing Bridge with friends provided moments of friendly competition and camaraderie. Shirley's talent for quilting created lasting heirlooms that will be cherished by generations to come.

Shirley is survived by 2 sons:  Jerry Patterson and wife Maureen of Ames, IA and Robert Patterson and wife Anne of Fort Dodge; 5 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister:  Karen Wright; and brother:  Dean Hansch.
