Steven L Ingram

December 25, 1947 — July 22, 2014

Private family graveside services with full military honors for Steven L. Ingram, 66 of Eagle Grove, will be Monday, July 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. He died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.

Steven Leroy Ingram was born December 25, 1947 in Laurens, Iowa to Lonney and Mildred (Challand) Ingram. He graduated from Storm Lake Public Schools in 1966. Steve enlisted in the United State Army in 1968 and served two tours of duty in Viet Nam.  He worked for the railroad for 15 years and continued to dream about the railroad the rest of his life.  Steve continued his service to his country by serving in the Iowa National Guard (AGR) for 25 years working as a chief mechanic and retired in 2007. For his service, Steve was one of the few enlisted soldiers to be honored with the Legion of Merit.

He was united in marriage to Joan Marie Fuchs on October 9, 2003 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove. Steve had a great love of cars and reading.  He was a friend to many with a big heart and will be remembered as a man with a great sense of humor.

Steve leaves behind his wife Joan, son Skyler Ingram, step-son Robert (Crystal) Burns, granddaughters Ashley and Allison, and sister Ann Lewis of Storm Lake.  Also left to cherish his memory; mother-in-law, Janice Fuchs, brothers-in-law, Dennis (Cathy) Fuchs and Don (Nancy) Fuchs; sisters-in-law, Sandy (Joe) Carlson and Linda Peterson;  many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Lonney and two brothers.

He was a friend whose heart was good, who walked with men and understood.  His was a voice that spoke to cheer and fell like music on the ear.  His was a smile men loved to see. His was a hand that asked no fee for friendliness or kindness shown. And now that he has journeyed on, His is the fame that never ends.  He leaves behind, uncounted friends.
