Thelma E. Longnecker, 90, of Fort Dodge, died Friday December 26, 2003 at the USA Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2003 at Bruce’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center with the Rev. Charles Johnson of the First Covenant Church officiating. Interment will follow in the White Oak Cemetery, Elkhart, IA. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Thelma was born July 14, 1913 the daughter of Harley and Grace (Pence) Elliot in Elkhart, IA. She graduated from North High School, Des Moines. Thelma later began working at the State Dept. of Public Instruction. On July 3, 1937 Thelma was united in marriage to Everett J. Longnecker in Des Moines, IA. In July of 1953 Thelma began her career with the Social Security Administration. During her career she worked in the following offices; Des Moines, Sioux City, Cedar Rapids, and Fort Dodge. Thelma became the District Manager of the Fort Dodge Social Security Office in April 1975. Thelma retired in January 1982.

Thelma loved people, working in her garden, going bowling, doing crossword puzzles, eating sweets, and showing everyone that she could kick her foot over her head.

Those thankful for having shared in Thelma’s life include her children, Pat Longnecker of WY, Sandra White of AZ, and Richard (Bev) Longnecker of Fort Dodge, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Mrs. Longnecker was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, Joyce Ann, one brother, and 4 sisters.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
