Wayne E. Martin, Jr., 79, of Fort Dodge died Friday February 6, 2004 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2004 at the Epworth United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Kurtenbach officiating. Interment will follow in the Fort Dodge Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 1856. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 until 6 p.m. at Bruce’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

Wayne was born November 17, 1924 the son of Wayne E. Sr. and Olive E. Knutson in Somers, IA. Wayne graduated from Somers High School with the class of 1942. Wayne went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. Wayne’s tour of duty took him to Germany. Following his return home Wayne went on to further his education at Tobin Business College graduating in 1948.

On December 21, 1946 Wayne was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Walker in Somers, IA.

During Wayne’s working career he was employed at the following, Webster County Treasurer’s Office for 10 years, and then Clean Towel Service as a route salesman until his retirement in 1986 after 27 years of service to the company.

Wayne was a member of the VFW and Epworth United Methodist Church.

Wayne was an avid sports fan who loved his Yankee’s. In his younger years he enjoyed taking fishing trips to Canada with his brother. He enjoyed working in his garden and tending to his tomato plants. Following the harvest he looked forward to canning his bountiful harvest. Wayne was always up for a game of Cribbage or Poker which ever the preference.

Those thankful for having shared in Wayne’s life include his children, Linda (Richard) Sessler of Fort Dodge, JoAnn (Chuck) Foughty of Frisco, TX, Margaret (Gary) Woodruff of Gowrie, Kathy (Jeff) Becker of Fort Dodge, Robert (Karen) Martin of Fort Dodge, Kevin (Lisa) Martin of Pocahontas, Bill Martin of Fort Dodge, and Mark Martin of Fort Dodge, three sisters, 15 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy on June 7, 1974, and 2 brothers.
