William “Bill” A. Wood, 80, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South, with Pastor David Barton of Rolling Hills Community Church officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will take place at North Lawn Cemetery. Services will be live streamed via the Historic Bruce Funeral Home Facebook page. Memorials may be directed to the family.
William was born May 4, 1942, in Fort Dodge, the son of Walter “Pete” and Catherine “Kate” (Reis) Wood. On April 20, 1963, he was united in marriage to Frances Schleuger in Fort Dodge. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, slow pitch softball and woodworking – including new construction projects. Throughout his life, Bill did construction work for many years, worked for the City of Fort Dodge (Water Pollution Control) for 30+ years, as well as Cement Mason, Concrete Finisher and Carpenter until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of Rolling Hills Community Church.
Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years: Fran Wood of Fort Dodge; daughter: Kim Jondle and husband Scott of Callender, IA; 2 sons: Tom Wood and wife Laura of Fort Dodge and Todd Wood and wife Robin of Fort Dodge; 6 grandchildren: Joni Jondle and husband Dale of Aurora, CO, Megan Kruse and husband Parker of Gowrie, IA, Amy Wood and husband Zach of Woodbury, MN, Molly Wood of New York City, Tiffani Elledge and husband Seth of Winthrop, IA and Cortney Thompson and husband Brandon of Fort Dodge; 2 great grandchildren: Kase Kruse and MaKenna Kruse; brother: Walter Wood and wife Janis of Fort Dodge; and sister: Joyce VanArsdale and husband Gary of Richland, WA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister: Rose Mary Miller and husband Doug.
