Howard George Hartman of Fort Dodge, passed away Thursday, October 27, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.

Howard was born February 28, 1942 in Washington D.C. to George Ross and Elizabeth “Jane” (Clayton) Hartman.  Howard attended the University of Maryland.  Howard and Vera were wed on March 23, 1990 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Howard was a real estate Broker on the east coast.  He was the Executive Director for Twin Rivers Habitat for Humanity for over a decade.  When Howard wasn’t at his job you could find him volunteering and helping others.  He was on various boards at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge.  His faith shined through every day when he would tell everyone “Have a Blessed Day.”  He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Noon Lions.  Howard served as a past president and a board member of Crime Stoppers, served on the United Way Select Committee, and was involved with the Boy Scouts of America.  He also served on the Vocational Board of the Rabiner Boys Ranch, a Board member of the Fort Dodge Historical Preservation Commission, part of the Homeless Ministry Task Force, Fort Dodge Special Olympic, gave to Back Pack Buddies, Coats for Kids, and continually gave to the local food banks.

Howard was preceded in death by both parents and sister Carolyn Kremer.  Forever cherishing his memory are his wife Vera Hartman of Fort Dodge; daughters, Joanne (Kevin) McNamara of Ocean City, MD and Alissa (Olivia) Wallace of Baltimore, MD; brother Donald Hartman (Patty) of Fairfax, VA; sister Kathleen (Michael) Paxton of Hagerstown, M.D.; Bruce Kremer (Carolyn) along with many nieces and nephews in which he spoke of often.

A memorial service will be held Friday, November 4th beginning at 11:00 AM at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Olaf Church.  Memorials may be directed to St. Olaf for the discretion of the family.
