Richard “Rich” Lee Patterson, 80, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Friday, November 25, 2022, at UnityPoint – Trinity Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 2, 2022, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1436 21st Avenue North, with Pastor Nicholas Thackery officiating. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge.
Richard was born May 11, 1942, in Otho, IA, the son of Floyd and Edna M. (Hayes) Patterson. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1960. On May 20, 1988, he was united in marriage to Patricia Palmer in Fort Dodge. Over the years, he worked at USG, Roy Lathem and Hormel’s. He then purchased the gas station from Roy Lathem in 1971, and called it Rich’s Skelly Services. It was then relocated and names Rich’s Auto. After 58 years in business, he retired. Rich was a hard worker who enjoyed mechanic work. He also enjoyed playing cards, camping and horseback riding. He was a State Champ in wrestling in 1961, and taught wrestling at Corpus Christi Church with his brother Frank. Rich also enjoyed the Kentucky Derby with his wife. In the 1960’s he was a member of the Elks.
Rich is survived by his wife of 34 years: Patricia Patterson of Fort Dodge; 2 children: Debbie Healey of Fort Dodge and Terri Jones of Ankeny, IA; 3 step-children: Barb, Terri and Holli; 6 grandchildren: Jonathon, Ashley, Breanne, Chantal, Logan and Ethan; numerous great grandchildren & great great grandchildren; and 3 siblings: Ellen Patterson, Bob Patterson, and Dave Patterson and wife Rachel. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law: Brian Healey; step-daughter: Jerri; 6 siblings: Evelyn Spike and husband Howard, Frank Patterson and wife Verla, Willy Patterson and wife Judy, Darlene McClellan. and husband Jack, Larry Patterson and Rodney Patterson.
