William Joseph Knierim Jr., 80, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Friday, December 9, 2022, at Friendship Haven.  Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at New Covenant Christian Church, 3318 5th Avenue South, with Pastor Mike Carmody officiating.  Memorials may be directed to the family.  Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge.

William was born November 29, 1942, in Dunlap, IA, the son of Gladys (Crawford) and William Joseph Knierim Sr.  In 1961, he graduated from Dow City-Arion High School and participated in basketball and football.  William continued his education at Colorado College, earning his MA degree.  In 1964, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1968.  William lived in Germany and smuggled people across the Berlin Wall.  In June of 1995, William was united in marriage to Faith Moore in Humboldt, IA.  William was a hog buyer until his retirement.  William enjoyed spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren.  He was a wonderful grandpa.  He also enjoyed politics, music, going to concerts, playing cribbage, going to auctions & garage sales, building stuff, camping in his 69’ VW camper van, and a nice cold drink with friends at the bar.  William was a member of New Covenant Christian Church.

William is survived by a son:  Mark Knierim of Berlin, Germany; 2 daughters:  Sadie Groves and husband Craig of Fort Dodge and Leah Linke of Atlanta, GA; 2 grandchildren:  Laney Linke of Fort Dodge and Brynn Schott of Fort Dodge; and a brother:  Keith Knierim of Nebraska.  He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2016; and twin sisters:  Janet Steindl and Jeanette Kuhlman.
